From 2011-2016, about 130 graduates of Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology were/will be hired directly from the institute. IIST provides quality education in the fields relevant to ISRO (aerospace engg., avionics and physical sciences) and hence employees from IIST are much better than those from other colleges. Admission to IIST is through JEE.

mostly people are selected by a national examination (written and then interview), but in my case ISRO had recruited from IIT campuses during placement season (interview only). I have heard that national written examinations are hard, interviews are equally brutal for some! 90% technical stuff in interview, what are your interests? your past projects, basic fundamentals etc etc.

Negotiation
I was able to negotiate the choice of CENTER (like VSSC, LPSC, SDSC-SHAR, ISAC, SAC etc). sometimes there is not much choice also. 90% of the mechanical engineering/ chemical engineering work is in Trivandrum (VSSC, LPSC) or Mahendragiri,TN (LPSC) or Shri-Harikota (SDSC-SHAR). 30-40% electrical/electronics work is in other centers in Bangalore and Ahemadabad. There are few other less known locations also!

Interview
1. Direct from campus (shortlisting and interview, from IITs)
2. Central level examination -> Interview-> selection

Interview Questions
Nothing difficult

ISRO interviews are a bit tough to clear. I feel its all luck. Some people get questions from their area of interest. Some may not even get one question. There are good chances of getting questions from your project. If you are an ECE student, possible areas are digital electronics, digital & analog communications, Linear integrated circuits, microprocessors, control systems & some times computer networks.

You may be asked to explain some questions with the help of board. There will be about 9 to 10 members in the interview panel. The guy at the centre (interview panel head) will probably be some centre director. You can mostly expect only HR questions from the panel head.

Which one performs better in-terms of noise – truncation or rounding? The question is related to signal processing

Interview
The interview was over some general stuff indicating the hirers ignorance and highhansednes. . They did not seem qualified to conduct one and expected answers suitable or familiar to them only. Too many candidates and too less time. It was a waste of my time as I had better eectation and I am disappointed .

There is a written test held all over India sometime in February. The written test is quite similar to GATE without negative marking. Mostly focussed OS, architecture and networks for CS guys. Those who clear will get a post in April to attend an interview in July. A panel of 5-6 guys will conduct the interview after making you wait for almost a day. Not much chance given to defend your answer but the panel consists of some of the best minds in the organization. If everything goes well you will get another post in December to join the organization by Feb next year.
